The origins of this Masonic power come from the Worshipful Symbolic Lodge “Fraternidad No. 1”, which was established on June 24, 1859 in the city of Veracruz by the Supreme Council of Grand Inspectors General Degree 33º of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite for the Masonic Jurisdiction of the Mexican Republic (Anahuac valley) based in Louisiana. In 1860 this lodge was regularized by the Supreme Council of Charleston South Carolina of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite for the Masonic Jurisdiction of the United States of America, through its Grand Master of Ceremonies Charles Laffon Ladebat this brother with some of the members of “Fraternidad No. 1” founded the Supreme Council of Grand Inspectors General 33rd degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite for the Masonic Jurisdiction of the Mexican Republic on December 21, 1860 at the Bethlemitas Hospital in that city of Veracruz.

The Supreme Council of Mexico of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite founded on March 23, 1869 the oldest Grand Lodge of its rite known as the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the State of Veracruz of Free and Accepted Masons of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite with the Worshipful Symbolic Lodges: “Fraternidad No.1” (1859), “Esperanza No. 12” and “Xicotencatl No. 13” created in 1869.

In the year 1882, faced with a despotic act by the Scottish Grand Orient Veracruz lodges sought the independence and sovereignty of the symbolic Freemasonry of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, which is why they requested to be constituents of the Most Worshipful United Grand Lodge of Columbus and the island of Cuba. This admitted these workshops and declared the Mexican territory as Unoccupied and Vacant in symbolic Freemasonry, granting Charters to the Obreros del Templo Lodges No. 12 (1872), Lumen No. 13 (1879) and Arcoiris (1882) for the foundation on January 25, 1883 of the Most Worshipful Mexican Independent Symbolic Grand Lodge of Veracruz, obtaining the regularity of origin.

The Supreme Council of Mexico raised its claim to the Supreme Council of Columbus in Cuba and the Most Worshipful United Grand Lodge of Columbus and Island of Cuba due to the establishment of this Masonic power in Mexican lands. The response of the Cuban brethren based on jurisprudence and Masonic law was infallible demonstrating that symbolic Freemasonry in its first three degrees should only be governed by a Grand Master and his Fraternity of Master Masons, so no precept of the Order was violated and it was based on the Ancient Boundaries. Understanding its error, the Supreme Council of Mexico forever freed with the Baluster XXXII the Grand Lodges that had governed since May 27, 1883. Thus, the Most Worshipful Mexican Independent Grand Lodge of Veracruz was the first occupant of Symbolic and Regular Freemasonry in Mexico, with power throughout the Mexican territory and adjacent islands and with the high responsibility of creating Grand Lodges granting them their Independence, Sovereignty and Jurisdiction always remaining in custody of REGULARITY.

Beginning in 1883, it granted regularity to the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the Federal District of A.F. & A.M., to the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Tlaxcala of A.F. & A.M., and in 1884 to the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Guanajuato and the rest of the powers of the country that requested regularity of origin. Likewise, since that year of 1883, they established fraternal relations with the Grand Lodges of the Grand Orient of Brazil, Peru, Cuba, Venezuela, Chile, Spain, Romania, Greece, Hungary, Australia, Manitoba, Arkansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Arizona, California, New York, Massachusetts, Alabama, Ohio, Iowa and Georgia.

Two years later, the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the State of Veracruz of Free and Accepted Masons of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the Most Worshipful Mexican Independent Symbolic Grand Lodge of Veracruz, added their talents to flourish clean pure and without stain as the Most Worshipful UNITED MEXICAN GRAND LODGE AND OF FREE AND ACCEPTED MASONS OF THE GRAND ORIENT OF VERACRUZ, Cradle of Freemasonry in Mexico on December 24, 1885.

Currently, as a Most Worshipful UNITED MEXICAN GRAND LODGE AND OF FREE AND ACCEPTED MASONS OF THE GRAND ORIENT OF VERACRUZ, it has seventeen Masonic Districts throughout the State of Veracruz. In its Masonic milestone, they have the privilege of having formed a veteran founding foot of the CONFEDERATION OF REGULAR GRAND LOGIES OF THE UNITED MEXICAN STATES in the year 1934 and of the CONFEDERATION INTER-AMERICAN MASONIC in 1947. Since December 18 2014, it was recognized by the Most Worshipful UNITED GRAND LODGE OF ENGLAND.
